We're all aware of the current state of affairs going on in our world. Is this new? No. We have tuned out the the cries and directions

of our ancestors with our Beats headphones, Smart TVs, cell phones and "busy lives". My mother raised me to actively participate in the world of which I live in. She constantly pushed her children in the direction for standing up against the wrongdoings and injustices done by anyone, of any color or any age- that's my blueprint. Not only am I sickened by the brutality against my fallen brothers and sisters by the hands of the police, I am not ashamed to say it! I am afraid for my spouse, my children, siblings, nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts- my family! These acts against citizens are deplorable, they are designed to induce pain and fear just as they did when my ancestors were kidnapped, raped, sold, murdered- TERRORIZED. The trees no longer bare strange fruit, in 2016 the streets do.....So what do you do when justice does not prevail?
Acknowledge what the hell is going on. I am beyond tired of seeing, reading and or listening to people carry on with their normal day to day agenda as if you don't hear the bellowing cries of families mourning their family members stolen from them. Shame on you for believing that this is not going to take place in your own backyard, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"- Martin Luther King. This is not about blaming the victim's because they were poor, mentally unstable, drug abusers, criminals etc. This is about acknowledging that what is and has taken place is NOT RIGHT OR FAIR!
Talk to your family. Way too often we hurt in silence, we need to comfort each other right now, grab your family and ask them to talk and express their pain, anger and solutions. It is also very necessary that you talk to your children, I chose to discuss with my children what is taking place outside our door because they live here too! They feel our anxiety, stress, discomfort and pain and they deserve to know why and they deserve to be heard.
Organize and unite! Find like minded individuals who would like to see a positive change, be enthusiastic, delegate responsibility, understand concerns, involve others and act (boycott, protest, educate, communicate, call the individuals that have power and demand a change, DO SOMETHING!). The worse thing we can do as intelligent human beings in the midst of a crisis, is sit down and watch others do all the work or do nothing.

Is this new? No. HIStory tells us that this issue is on a repeated cycle. This has been happening towards a particular group of people for too long. This is NOT a sign of "The Times" better yet a sign of "This time we're not going to be silent!" If our forefathers were to have just sat and watch (as we are doing) during the Civil Rights Movement and the many movements before that, what kind of world would this world be? As I process what has taken place in the past 72 hours, I find myself thinking "What if that was my child, my brother, my father? Ask yourself the same question. Now ask yourself, "What would you want others to do for you and with you?" At the end of the day, to take a life so senselessly and selfishly, is pathetic! Yes, I am very aware that there are killings of people everyday NOT by the hands of police officers, BUT when you swear to serve and protect, you must be upheld to the same laws of the land that WE must. If you take the life of a human being unlawfully and then you walk away with no repercussions- where is the justice in no one being held responsible? Aren't you tired of it? I wept more than I slept last night, what do WE have to lose?
