This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the 34th annual Detroit African World Festival and it truly surpassed all of my expectations. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about (and interested in learning more), the Detroit African World Festival is annually hosted by the Charles H. Wright Museum, celebrating the African Diaspora, shared heritage and cultures. This festival was jammed packed with poetry, singing, dancing, face painting, EXCELLENT vendors, live performances, arts & crafts, A LOT of food and educational entertainment for an entire weekend!
It being mine and my families first time attending the festival, I must say that I was extremely impressed with the order of events and the organization. There was literally an event or foot-stomping- hip-swaying sound of Djembe drums and or music (period) at every turn. I found pleasure in attending the festival from 11-8 (my FitBit was sooo proud of me!), my children were definitely tired and my West African husband was in heaven (literally). I was only able to attend the event on Saturady, however I have already planned to attend this festival all three days next year! In support of #SupportBlackBusinessess I encourage you (next year and now, check out the links below) to support all of the vendors whose products were truly amazing, especially Zuresh and Aluna Afrofunkwear being two of my favorite. Zuresh is a husband & wife duo sell natural hair and total body products for women, men and children. Aluna Afrofunkwear, has its name all up in its product, this sista sells clothes with a funky twist that is sure to turn heads!- check them out!!! To the coordinators of this huge event, I salut you, and to the continuous attendees, I'll see you next year.
