Bit of Beauty: Makeup Course 101

This past weekend I had the pleasure of co-hosting a Makeup Course along side my dear friend and beauty extraordinaire, J'Hanna Appleby of Le Luxe Beauty Concierge . From beginning to end I was informed & entertained- what else does a girl need? More importantly, I was proud-You know how it is when you see your friend in their element and you're like, "YASSSSS" that was me all day. I personally get a lot of support from my friends (I am definitely blessed in that area) so to be able to give that support back, was pure satisfaction.

What did I learn???? First of all, I will share with you some of my secrets from the class BUT more importantly, why weren't you there?

First and foremost:

Makeup only enhances the way you already feel about yourself ladies. If you can't walk out the house without makeup on (not brows, that's the only exception to the rule! Please don't walk outside without eyebrows) something else is going on! REMEMBER: You look good because YOU feel good (about YOU!)

Here goes:

Wash Your Face & You're Brushes! A clean face is like a clean canvas- it's hard to work on a bumpy, wrinkled surfaces, right?! Yes. So take care of your face and your body by staying hydrated and using products to protect your face from the harmful rays of the sun and the cold harsh winter weather. Also, wash your brush every week. J'Hanna explained the importance fighting the bacteria and germs that live on the tools that we use daily. In order to cut down on germs wash those bad boys, if you can't afford a brush cleaner, no worries- she gave us the formula!

1 part Olive oil + Anti-bacterial dish detergent = Brush Cleaner

1. Dip brushes into the solution, add water.

2. Give it a hearty swirl

3. Rinse off the brush

4. Lay the brushes flat

5. Let the brushes dry (never let them dry standing up)

I was applying 60% of my makeup WRONG! You know I thought I was doing it right, but then again, I accept full responsibility for getting ALL of my information from YouTube. In my case, I was using most of the wrong colors on my face and J'Hanna quickly let me know that-that is a "NO, NO." More importantly, if you don't want to buy from the more expensive brands, drug store brands are CLUTCH & if it doesn't match or just isn't for you YOU CAN TAKE IT BACK, who knew that???? I didn't...

Foundation First! I USED to do my eyebrows first but I learned that it is actually what you should be doing last. Once you have your face together, then you fix your eyebrows so that you aren't covering up all of your great artistry.

Conceal & Highlight. Ya'll I was using a concealer that was waaay to light, she said I was casket ready. So, as to not look like the walking dead, please find a color ONE shade lighter than your natural skin tone, not 3- LOL! Also, J'hanna said to highlight the natural areas that the light hits (again, naturally). Her technique was to simply look up, all the way and watch where the light hits your face- follow the light, not the shadows!

Contour. In the words of my instructor, "But NOT everyday-unless that's what you do!"

Okay, there you go guys! That's all I'm willing to share #petty...However, I cannot say again how much fun I had. You know how it is when you are attending an event, where you are learning something, and your a little nervous? Well, I wasn't and I don't know if it was due to the tasty Mimosas or the delicious Quiche but J'Hanna made everyone right at ease by asking questions and getting a feel for what looks we were interested in attempting. I was desiring an "Everyday/ Eau Natural" look, check out my before and after!

I will keep you posted on the next course, and by the way a little birdie told me that it may be a "Somkey Eye & Red Lip Course" If so, one seat is definitely already taken!
