Kickin' Through The Doors of 2017!

Heyyyy 2017!!!! What's up tho!!!!!

Yes, it is finally here and I am soooo excited to get into this New Year & of course a new chapter in my life! 2016 was EXTREMELY good to me, don’t get me wrong I had some trying moments, but I was able to see the silver lining throughout it all and as I always say, “Every experience is worth experiencing!” And speaking of experiences, I started this New Year off in Dakar, Senegal amongst family and friends whom I love extremely. 15 years ago when I met my husband in Senegal on a performing company voyage I never would have thought that his family would be such an important part of my life! I mean duhhhhh, they are my in-laws BUT we literally interact on a weekly basis and once every year we go to Dakar in December for the Holidays, I just find it dope that through all of our ups & downs, I most cherish how we are all family at the end of the day. So, bringing in a New Year with my family overseas was not only memorable but the stepping stone that I needed to get this year started off with a bang. Many people believe that it is superstitious or pointless to set New Year’s Resolutions, but I don’t. This year, I plan to travel more, I plan to balance myself by becoming more organized, create more opportunities to just sit with my family, take my businesses to the next level (Goree Drum and Dance, Wrapologie & Normal Black Chic) annnnnnnd buy a house! As you can tell, I enjoy stacking my plate high but I am no quitter! I know what you’re thinking, “How do I plan to make sure that I stick to my New Year’s Resolutions???” I thought you’d never ask!

1. Be patient. There are 365 days in a year, give yourself the time necessary to reach your goals within a practical time frame.

2. Measure your progress. I am the Queen of bite-sized goals, created to reach theyou take it step by step, you can measure whether or not you're regressing or progressing.

3. Get Support. Know who is around you and in your circle at all times, everyone around you is not for you! My sister once told me if I was quiet long enough I would find out why some people are around me, boy was she right! So, Find your most trustworthy, supportive friends and explain your plans. If they truly support you, when they see you down or going through, they’ll know the right things to say during the hard times and help you get back on your feet. Just know that it should be reciprocated, never always be on the receiving end- pour into your friends too and support their goals as well.

4. Treat Yourself. I have a friend who is trying to lose weight, every 5lbs. she looses she buys herself something. Rewards are necessary when you make those all-important milestones.

5. Don't give up! I am no master at this, I will take two steps forward and two steps back, but that's life & I'm keeping it real. So, I know I'll slack on some of these goals but guess what I won't be doing- giving up. #sorrynotsorryAs always, I hope that I have helped & blessed New Year to each and every one of you!

Remember you are in complete and total control of your life, therefore, speak the things that you want in and for your life, into existence. Don’t approach any of your goals sheepish or haphazardly, speak and act with authority and watch your goals, dreams and aspirations appear!
