Budget Baby!

Now, I'm no Oprah, YET (a girls gotta have #goals) but I do make enough money to say, "I can put that in layaway!" LOL. No seriously, I've worked very hard at making sure SallieMae aka Navient never goes for broke. With that being said, "Where is my money going?" The cute answer is bills, the truth is: My name is Serrita and I have no self-control. I make excuses why I should spend money (often) and the crazy part is I am tight with my money!!! How??? Well, here's the 411: I save a lot, then I cry about not having things, so I splurge all that I've saved....don't be like me. Do you understand my rational? I do treat myself, but I hold out for so long that when I treat me- I go hard (for a lack of better terms). Just recently I was talking to a friend and she was going on and on about her budget; she just loves this and loves that, she can go here and buy this- which I can, but just not like that! So I said to myself, "What are you going to do?" the answer: Budget Baby!!!

What I've learned & gathered:

1. Know Who You Owe. In order to really stay on a budget and stick to a budget, you first need to know what you owe biweekly/monthly. Be honest with yourself, write it all down and start from there.

2.Discipline. First & foremost 10% of your check should go to YOU! Put that amount in your savings account, set a goal for it & DON'T TOUCH IT! (until you've reached it, of course). Create a budget with the money that is left over (after bills) for shopping, fast food, gas etc.

3. Just Do It. As hard as it may be, don't go over the budget- You will fail, no one goes cold turkey and is successful, it's all about mind over money- I made that up but you get the drift. I once heard that it takes 30 days to make a habit, try it!

4. Don't Give Up (or in). Often times, when were in the race we are focused and determined. Then we've reached our goal and we revert back to our old behavior- Don't. Try hard to make budgeting a lifestyle, let's exasperate all abilities to being a financially responsible example to our children so that they won't be moving back in with us years from now.

Dope Apps Can Help With That:

Here are some great apps that have helped me get my budget together!

1. Mint Budgeting App

2. PocketGuard Budget App

3. You Need A Budget

4. Goodbudget

5. Mvelopes

Well, there you go. As always thank you for starting and ending your work week with me. Please, seriously try one of the previously mentioned apps so when I am in Puerto Rico, on vacation- you know the one I budgeted for????? I am not alone!
