What does your age say about you????? Well the Normal Black Chic response to this question is that you are the age you feel. The other day my friend was laughing at me, we were discussing her upcoming birthday event and of course it starts after 9 pm- so she says, "You'll probably be in the corner sleep" (jokingly). So, I then said, "Gurl- I AM tired, I'm 36 and soon I'll be 40, then 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and I don't want to know what's after that! (hopefully 100)" That comment followed me in my sleep, like Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street. I seriously woke up with a lump in my throat, I kept asking myself, if this is what a mid-life crisis feels like!? In my defense, if you're over the age of 36- no disrespect! But I seriously had a moment; have I done enough? What have I accomplished? How much life have I lived???? After I checked myself, I thought, what does my age have to anything to do with it? Does this number really mean anything?
In digging deeper, I learned it does-age does matter, the number matters, it all matters and here's why!
1. You are the age you feel. There is a point in life when you hear the infamous words, "Act your age!" This makes you realize that you need to be more maturer and responsible-right!? Yes, but that doesn't mean to become one of those 33 year olds in Walmart shopping while on the motorized chair. Often times we consider our age as the number that tells what we can and cannot no longer do, "I'm too old for that!" - LIES from the pit of hell. Don't be that person (I'm talking to myself), if at 25 you used to run 2 miles every morning keep doing it, if at 18 you used to take quick yet amazing trips- keep doing that. We feel old(er) because we stopped doing the things that made us feel young or simply jubilant about life.
2. STOP the routine. I knooooooooow, I'm a mom and a wife with a full-time job- I have responsibilities-----I GET IT, but honestly it wasn't until I started this blog along with Wrapologie that I started to feel really good about life. The routine of what I was doing previously was not fulfilling but adding this random idea into the swing of things made life exciting, creative and spontaneous. If I could make a suggestion based off of my own experience, it would be try to incorporate some awesome idea into your life, something you've always wanted to do. Don't get caught up with thinking you should've done it when you were younger or toiling with the idea that you wanted to do it later in life. Throw a curveball into mix and watch it change you!
3. Recognize. Agree or agree to disagree, age does matter! Because of my age, I have wisdom and experiences worth crying or laughing about- let's call those memories. Without the 36 years of those memories, I would not only be lost but I wouldn't be who or where I am today. HOWEVER, 36 does not mean I'm old, tired, always exhausted, can't party or that I can't take a spontaneous trip to China next week. I may be at her party in the corner looking at the insides of my eyelids but that's because I really enjoyed living that day, so much so that I did everything I used to do when I was 20!
As always thank you for starting and ending your work week me. In the comment section, let me know what you used to do when you were younger and if you still do it today?
