You know how it is when you really love something, but you know that it is not good for you and you know the relationship isn't worth those days where you're asking yourself, "Why do I keep doing this to myself?" Well, I finally have had enough and broke up with WEAVE! Lol #nobutseriously. I am over the frustration of buying hair, dying hair, braiding my hair to sew on some hair, sweating profusely because I'm wearing a wig or spending valuable time teasing the hairs of a wig so that it blends in with my real hair- when I have my own hair! More importantly I am aware that this all has deeper meaning; it's a psychological issue that I have had with my hair for years. I can recall cutting off my Barbie Doll's hair at 12, wrapping it with a rubber band and sticking it into my ponytail to add length- why??? I don't know. But I do know, the truth is that I have been wearing weave since I was a child because it made me feel prettier- not to mention I have NEVER worn my natural hair for a consistent year without covering it up- WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? So, I'm ready to face my fears and love the skin I'm in. This past Friday I went into a natural hair salon where this beautiful sister/loctician named Roshae of Napps Kinx & BBs Urban Day Spa reintroduced me to myself! It took 6 hours to lock (or dreadlock) my hair and I walked out a new Queen!
BYE BYE WEAVE!!!
Disclaimer: I'm not hear to bash any of my weave wearing sistas but for me it was time to look at myself in the mirror and ask "Why don't I feel comfortable enough to leave the house without a wig or a hat on if I don't have braids,a wig or weave?" Well, my response hasn't changed from when I was 12 years old "I didn't think I looked pretty without it"- no I don't suffer from low self-esteem but I have made a habit of relating my beauty with extensions...time for a change-YES! So for my sistas in struggle, this is what I want you to know:
1. You are beautiful. With weave and or without weave, you are beautiful. If you can't leave the house without it- ask yourself why and work on it (seirously)!
2. $$$Weave. Another reason I chose to go natural- my wallet said so, "How much is that weave in the window? TOO MUCH!" If your're saving money to buy weave and not to buy a house, go on an amazing trip or just a rainy day fund- your priorities are skewed. I literally would get paid and budget weave into that weeks pay, and be broke by the end of the week-not to mention the weave never lasted. IF you can afford it- do you but if you also don't have an amazing savings account, are living paycheck to paycheck, in credit card debt- think that over before you buy 2 bundles #imjustsaying
3. Embrace Your Natural Hair. Fall in love with your natural hair all over again, embrace the beauty of those loose or tight curls and don't wait to love your hair until it's longer. A valuable lesson that I am starting to learn, is to take the necessary time to learn your hair without any distractions, in turn you will find the solutions to the issues you are having with your hair. Also, if you really find yourself "stuck" find a "Hair Twin" on social media-there are tons of Influencers on Instagram, Youtube, Facebook etc. who have really great ideas and styles that you can try on your hair too! Enjoy the journey & trust the process!
As always love yourself immensely and make no excuses for what you do- you don't owe anyone any explanations! Thanks for starting your work with me!!!
